Our colleagues from the air and sea division have successfully completed another interesting logistics operation.
This time, it was a printing machine being exported to the US, specifically to New York. The shipment included three oversized pieces and eight 40HC containers, with the largest piece weighing an impressive 48 tons.
Preparations began about a month before the actual loading, as it was necessary to ensure that all parts of the machine were shipped on the same ship. In addition, oversized items require special permits for road transport, which required careful planning. The three large parts were transported by road to the port, where they were unloaded and loaded onto the ship using MAFI trailers. The eight containers first arrived by truck at a terminal in the Czech Republic, from where they continued by train to the port.
During planning, the dimensions of the crates changed several times – originally, the machine parts were to be distributed across six containers, but in the end, eight were needed to fit everything safely. Such changes are common in similar shipments. Although this meant more work, our team handled it brilliantly and the shipment sailed on schedule.
