Geis launches its own TMS – the result of cross-company collaboration
Accuracy, reliability, and the ability to respond quickly to changes are crucial in logistics. That is why it is essential to have the tools that make this possible. This year, Geis successfully launched its brand-new GLog Transport Management System, which was developed in-house, in three countries in the CEE region. However, this was not just a technological project, but also a strategic one, involving almost the entire company. The result is a solution that brings greater efficiency, flexibility, and technological sustainability, while reflecting the real needs of its users and, by extension, the company's clients.
In-house development as a strategic choice
The decision to develop its own TMS was not impulsive. Geis was struggling with the limitations of commercial solutions, which required extensive modifications and still failed to meet the company's specific needs. The need for technological modernization, greater independence, and preparation for future developments in logistics also played an important role. "There was no solution on the market that fully matched our know-how and future needs," says David Lorenc, Director of IT Development at Geis CZ, adding: "In-house development has enabled us to create a system that accurately reflects our processes and is also ready for future technological challenges."
Company-wide collaboration
Dozens of experts participated in the development of the Glog system—developers, testers, business analysts, IT analysts, as well as company management and employees from operations, sales, and accounting. Each area had its own key user who collected requests from colleagues and passed them on to the development team. This resulted in a system that is not just a technical tool, but a true reflection of the everyday work of people at Geis. "Everyone in the company had the opportunity to see, test, and comment on the system. Software development is not the work of the IT department, but of the entire company," adds the Director of IT Development.
Features that go beyond classic TMS
GLog includes not only classic TMS operational features, but also a number of other related applications – a customer portal, a mobile app for drivers, a scanning app for warehouse workers, and EDI communication. These applications were deployed gradually to work with the existing system, and then the core system was launched in three countries in the CEE region – the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland – in a single day. Lorenc says: "The transition went relatively smoothly, without any disruption to operations – which is an exceptional achievement in itself."
Technological sustainability and flexibility
The new system is based on modern architecture that allows for the scalability of individual modules – operational, commercial, and accounting. Thanks to in-house development, the system is flexible, easily expandable, and ready for integration with other Geis Group solutions.
Development in motion and plans for the future
The development of the GLog system took place at a time when the company was constantly changing – growing, changing processes, conditions, and requirements. The team had to be flexible, ready to respond and continuously adapt the system. It was this ability to adapt that became one of the key pillars of the project. However, GLog is not a closed chapter – there are plans to further expand the use of artificial intelligence and gradually increase process automation.
Benefits for clients and employees
GLog allows to react quickly to new requirements and changes, develop the client portal and payment methods. Thanks to the fact that the system is "tailor-made," cooperation between IT and operations has improved at Geis. The software is constantly evolving, and the entire company continues to contribute to its design. A year before its launch, internal testing began, with employees sending virtual shipments to each other and fine-tuning details until the actual launch. The result is a system that truly meets the needs of those who work with it on a daily basis.
